Some of us are lucky enough to get left-wing radio over the air, yes, even in 2015. While many of you have to buy subscriptions to hear lefty radio, where I am there are some real progressive stars that come out of the night sky and visit my radio.
Late last night I heard an astute comment from a caller to the Mike Malloy radio show who pointed out that "the NRA has turned the US into a shooting gallery". You could assume this comment is in response to the Umpqua shootings, but ... why stop there?
It's true. We are all cartoon-ducks-in-a-shooting-gallery now! Thanks, NRA!
Later, in the early morning hours, Alan Colmes visited my radio, interviewing Andy Parker, the father of murdered TV presenter Alison Parker. Mr. Parker blamed the DO NOTHING GOTP CONGRESS for their obvious cowardice and their pandering to the NRA in lieu of addressing our (yours and my and the folks at the community college) American life-and-death random-chance-of-being-shot-like-a-cartoon-duck-in-a-shooting-gallery reality. (He didn't say that exactly, but that's what I heard because 2am).
"Despite having only 5 percent of the world’s population, the United States is home to 31 percent of mass shootings" (this statistic from a report of a study by Adam Lankford, a criminal justice professor at the University of Alabama). Lankford identifies three factors at the heart of our mutual shooting-gallery problem: "ready availability of guns, a belief in American exceptionalism, and a craving for fame."
