Two days ago Bill Clinton told the story about Hillary trying to join the Army in the mid-70's and being turned down because of bad vision. In her version it was the Marines.
GI Hill
Unlike the Bosnia sniper fire story, this one probably can't be proven one way or another but I find it rather dubious. The first election I could vote in was 1972 and I supported George McGovern as a first choice-mostly based on his anti-war record. Women on my age(younger than HRC but not that much)active in the anti-war movement would never consider volunteering for the armed services. And what's more because of our boyfriends, brothers and friends, we were well acquainted with the exemptions including eyesight, flat feet and a variety of allergies. We knew the draft lottery number of the men in our lives and even what ours would have been. If we did for some reason have a desire to enlist, we would have known if our bad vision prevented our service.
So why is she offering up this tale(if indeed it is just that)? Trying to put herself on an equal footing with John McCain? Trying to draw a contrast with Obama who did not enlist? Or can she just not help herself?
