The line "Wow! You came back today" was something that I heard a couple dozen times yesterday (Tuesday). It was something that I didn't expect, and I've been thinking about that since I first heard it. This is not a diary about politics, or some great idea, just my pondering the fact that I heard this so much. But first...
Background - I started a new job on Monday working for an organization that supports many of Iowa's school districts. It doesn't pay what I was making before, and is certainly a lot less than when telecommunications software programming was at it peak ten years ago. However, you take the job that your offered, especially when health insurance is needed and the kids are in college and about to head off to college, and unemployment compensation doesn't begin to cover those expenses.
However, the programming that I will be doing is critical here in Iowa to bring a lot of the software that the school districts use into the 21st century. A lot of the software is still running on mainframes.
It's not necessarily an exciting job, but I'm glad I have a job again. And I was surprised Tuesday again and again as people that I'd met on Monday kept saying, "Wow! You came back today."
