Researchers at Ohio State University have done a study on the processing of political satire, and found that although both liberals and conservatives think that Stephen Colbert is funny, that conservatives were much more likely to think that Colbert only pretends to be joking and really means what he says.
The main message is that confirmation bias is strong within people.
