Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meetup for prayer* and community at Daily Kos. We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth and healing is welcome.
Christmastime is almost over...
Good evening...
Good evening, everyone...
Today's readings at Mass said some pretty important things to me about what is really important in how we treat people...
This is a place to rest...
There has been this Facebook/Instagram thing lately where folks share their favorite verse and then call out other to do the same. To this point, no one in my circle of friends has called me to do so... probably because they (correctly) assume that I dislike public pronunciations of faith that are of the "Look at how pious and awesome I am!" variety. One's faith is definitely bigger than a social media post, but personally I find that the posts about what you are doing with life on this earth say much more about you than what your favorite verse is.
From the first time I heard the story of the loaves and the fishes, it reminded me of the story "Stone Soup". I have never been able to separate the two, because they both have always spoken to me about generosity-- of sharing one's food and one's spirit.
A hymn from Mass this morning has stuck with me all day...
