Here is the sequence of events:
August 5, Saturday. While on vacation at Crawford Texas, President
Bush is called by British Prime Minister Blair and briefed on the
uncovering of a terrorist plot by British citizens to blow up planes
using liquid explosives like the one foiled in the 1990's by President
Clinton.
August 8th Tuesday In the first real choice voters have had to vote
on someone closely identified with supporting Bush/GOP policy and an
alternative, long time Bush supporter, Senator Lieberman is defeated
by a political novice who challenged Lieberman's support of Bush on
the Iraq war, attacks on civil liberties, use of torture and for
undermining members of Lieberman's own party. The victory in the
primary was clear with record turnout. Lieberman spent about 8-12
million on the race, Ned Lamont 3-6 million.
