So many questions pop into my mind as a result of the Hobby Lobby decision. You see, my husband and I tried to get pregnant for 8 years before finally becoming successful and having a healthy baby son (who is now a tween).
We tried having babies the old-fashioned way and after several years without success, turned to fertility doctors to find out why. After several tests and months of increasingly invasive procedures, our doctor decided to try something before we started IVF. She noticed a small polyp in my uterus, and while she assured me that it was too small to prevent implantation, they would remove it before starting IVF just in case. We were also told to not have unprotected sex for 2 months after that while the site healed.
I got pregnant at month 3.
In the medical and scientific community, they would say we tried for 8 years to get pregnant and were finally successful. The SCrOTUS 5 & Mr/Mrs Hobby Lobby [what gender should I use for a corporation anyway?] would probably say (and I paraphrase) SHE ABORTED 96 BABIES OMG!!!
I took several pregnancy tests during those 8 years -- all negative (the scientific & medical communities would have me believe that I was, in fact, NOT pregnant...). But now that the Supreme Court in all it's wisdom decided that bosses can legally act on their beliefs about contraception rather than accepted medical science, can they fire me and arrest me for murder if they find out? (I'm so confused!) So, how do you protect yourself from this sort of thing if any embryo that isn't implanted is still a baby? I hate to think that I'm a murderer! Does that mean my husband is an accomplice?
