  •  Unfortunately, Bush & Cheney (11+ / 0-)

were never defeated on the national stage. They did the constitutionally allowed 8 years, then left to spend more time with their families.

Sure, their party has pretended ever since that neither of them actually exist anymore, but last I heard Darth Cheney did finally get a human heart to replace the cyber-heart that kept him alive in his bunker all those years. They did pretty well for themselves and all their mercenary war profiteering buddies.

For us and hundreds of thousands of Iraqi and Afghani citizens, not so much.

    •  Well, they helped ruin their party, though (4+ / 0-)

The American people won't buy "trickle down" from anyone for the foreseeable future.  They have become virtually pacifistic with zero appetite for new expensive wars because they felt duped into the Iraq war.   Because of Bush/Cheney Republicans are distrusted as a general rule, especially when it comes to serving the middle class, by far the largest economic self-identifier that exists.

In many ways progressive gains at the executive and legislative branches as well as a more rapid ushering-in of progressive values on the social front were made possible by Bush/Cheney.

Yes,  they did "well" for themselves financially, but history is not kind to either.  They will go to their graves knowing that to mankind forevermore they are considered epic failures.
