which is how they see Latinos.

Not as Americans with a vote but as The Other. They think they can insult a culture because they see Hispanic and think Illegal. There are millions upon millions of Americans who identify as Latino/Hispanic. Some are white, some are brown, some are black. It's not a race, its a heritage. Some speak fluent Spanish and fluent English, some get by with Spanglish, some speak flawless English and crappy Spanish. Some speak Portuguese. Some only speak English. Some are from the islands, some from Central and South America and the many diverse countries there, some are recent immigrants and first generation Americans, some have been here for longer than there has been a United States. Some are poor, some are rich.

Republican lawmakers seem to think that they can conflate the entire Hispanic experience with "illegals" and not insult others who share that heritage. They can't. I have seen first hand the slipping away of Republican support in my family and friends. As they continue to pigeonhole Americans into groups and play them against each other, the more votes they lose.

who doesn't want to wear the ribbon?!?
