  •  We need immigration because we need to (5+ / 0-)

To increase diversity so that there are more progressive voters.

To increase affirmative action to reduce racism.

And to make sure that there is no labor shortage.

We need I migrants from Mexico because there are too many jobs that Americans don't want to do.

    •  I would change 1 thing on your list (10+ / 0-)

      I would say instead:

To increase the diversity of America so that affirmative action is no longer needed, and the only people looked down upon in our society are bigots!

Never underestimate stupid. Stupid is how reTHUGlicans win!

cans on the ditch digging, roofing, framing, landscaping and road work crews around here, all ages from young adult to grey beards. Often minorities don't have a fair shot at these jobs because the whites want them that badly and make it hard to get hired or into some unions.

Fact is there aren't jobs Americans don't want to do, but there are wages they won't take for them. Around here you can earn a living at hard manual labor.

--Not saying that we shouldn't have immigration or legalize undocumented aliens we already have.

Let me fix this for you:

We need imigrants from Mexico because there are too many jobs that Americans don't want to do at the price American employers want to pay.

Economics is a social *science*. Can we base future economic decisions on math?

grow. If they are legalized they will pay into the social security system, that helps us all.  I think the worst thing about a high percentage of undocumented people is that employers don't have a need to improve working conditions. They can hire someone who can't complain.

I also think that having a large group of people with less rights or no rights causes numerous social problems for everyone. Crime victims and witnesses won't talk to the police because they are afraid of the consequences.

I know a lot of people think it is a crime for people to come here without proper documentation, but we have to be realistic. Some people came as kids and had no say in the matter, some people had no way of surviving the 8-15 year wait to get in.

    •  We also need immigration so (0+ / 0-)

Those workers will pay for our retirement.

They will pay their fair taxes.

They will buy real estate and bring the market back.

They will get drivers licenses and not drive without a license.

        pay for "our" retirement????

we need them because they will pay their fair taxes? not unless there is tax reform because otherwise they will get screwed as the rest of us do. Their coming here does not nothing to make things "fair".

hope they can all buy real estate but there are many of Americans locked out of owning real estate due to prices in some places but also tough mortgage requirements and tight funding.

think there are always people that drive w/o a license for many reasons so again, them coming here legally does not automatically mean they run out and get licenses.

do you even know what it would mean to them??? does it matter to you?

who are qualified to do more than just the jobs Americans don't want to do and with a system that helps immigrants legally enter the US and become citizens my guess is we could get some of their best and brightest.

America does not have the market cornered on intelligence and skill.
