some kind of nefarious quality to GWB's sharing of his paintings with his sister. I don't comment on his artistic credentials, but merely point out that painting as a pastime is quite a harmless pursuit; in fact, Winston Churchill wrote a short book about it, being quite a talented amateur landscape painter himself. It is, of course, true that GWB was a disastrous President, but I see nothing wrong with sharing his utterly innocuous endeavors with his sister, your attempts to insinuate otherwise not withstanding. The distribution of this private information is actually more disturbing. Whatever he was, GWB is now a private citizen and should be accorded the rights we would wish offered to ourselves, i.e. not to have our personal correspondence raided for the entertainment of the public.

    •  W's pictures weren't landscapes (4+ / 0-)

The ones he sent to his sister were of himself in the shower and in the tub. I don't even pretend to understand what that's all about. Something tells me, though, that Dr. Freud would have a field day with it.

attempted for them. the water streaming in both, for example, has been interpreted as him either trying to wash away his guilt for the iraq war a la macbeth, or an allusion to waterboarding.

the fact that his face is seen via a mirror in the one of him in the shower was interpreted as evidence of insecurity.

Is the idea that you would protect someone's privacy - even if you don't like them - somehow a foreign concept to people here? The time to stand up for the right to privacy is when people of whom we do not approve have their rights violated. It's a civil liberties issue, unless you just don't believe in the right to privacy.

      for his security?

Sorry, but once you are president, your life is never private.

      •  I disagree. We all have a right to privacy. (0+ / 0-)

I stand up for the right of citizens to be secure in their persons and private papers.

    •  yes, he has the right (0+ / 0-)

to remain silent...anything he says can and will be used against him in an international court of law.  He has the right to an attorney...

rights that I hope would be offered to me for starting a trumped up war, or as they called it in Nürnberg, crimes against humanity
