Today in the NY Times, they announced that Charles "Cully" Stimson resigned as the head of detainee affairs.
Needless to say, this was not unsurprising given his January 11th comments regarding law firms that are representing the detainees at Guantanamo. He is now most likely facing action by the California Bar for his comments. Given the history of the Bush administration, his half-hearted and equivocal "apology" was true to form and I think he is probably only the 2nd or 3rd admistration official to resign without being indicted first.
As a first year law student, his comments caused quite a reaction in my Professional Responsibility professor as she read off which Model Rules he broke and warned us she had better not read about us pulling a stunt like he did.
