John Hall (NY-19) told some startling news to a small group of people questioning him about impeachment.
At a fundraiser for John Hall yesterday I learned along with a small group of people asking questions of the new congressman from NY 19 two facts which haven’t been covered by the media. One could give us hope; the other is a reminder that the same old Republican obstructionist dirty tricks are being perpetrated in our house (House of Representatives).
The new information was mentioned because I asked Hall about his position on impeachment. At first his response seemed to be the usual spineless mush – "we have to choose between getting things done or spending our energy on impeachment." I questioned him about why both couldn't occur simultaneously. He then told us that the House – especially Democrats on the Appropriations Committee - had recently zeroed Bush’s plan to build new nuclear weapons. He followed this with another story about a recent event designed to foil any further Democratic successes. One afternoon recently (I couldn’t find anything on Google to establish the exact timing) the minority leader, Boehner, called for adjournment every 15 minutes which made the dems working on committees (or anything else) rush over to the house to vote against adjournment. Hall claimed that few people in the country know about what's really being done – either positive actions by Democrats or obstructionist shenanigans by Republicans. So - I told him I'd tell this group and reminded him that there are many people who now think and feel that it is time to move toward impeachment. Last night I posted a comment here asking if anyone on DK knew about the zeroing of funding for new nukes.
JML9999 very quickly responded by sending the following links: The Bush Vision Delusion; Kill it before it breeds [sorry I couldn't figure out how to keep the links as links] The first spells out the program for building new nuclear warheads and the second details how the House committee defunded it. Today I did a search on Google to try to find other notices of this remarkably positive turn of events and only found a reference to it in a commentary about New Mexico’s economy. What’s up? Are we supposed to keep the good news quiet in case Darth Cheney decides to use all those unappropriated funds to get us back into the nuclear arms business?
Not being too swift on these kinds of searches I could find nothing on the Boehner 15 minute adjournment votes. But shouldn’t that be widely known? When the Repugs shut down the government altogether it didn’t make the people too happy. Shouldn’t the people be informed about this particular effort to shut down the government?
