My wife has given money to Moveon on the past, but not me. The last two days of votes, well addressed on the recommended list, informed me that I need to help in some small way. Why $107.12? Follow me below the fold.
$107.12. I first thought of sending them a hundred dollars. I know as well that the extra $7.12 doesn't comport well with the usual $.02 for netroots contributions.
For me, though, the extra $7.12 represents two cents a day. I hope I can get my two cents in with this contribution. It's not as much as the $9.11 some McCain supporters would hope for, but there you have it.
Chucking a little cash at Moveon is not enough, though. I followed it up with a couple of letters to my folks in Washington.
Dear Congressman Wu,
I’m writing to express my extreme displeasure at your support of Congressman Lewis’ amendment excoriating Moveon for their advertisement in the New York Times. I’m not sure what your reason for this vote is other than to assume that you’re hoping for some change in the nation’s political discourse.
At the same time, I have to admire the efficiency of your vote. In one move, you managed to simultaneously condemn the free speech rights of Moveon, support the free speech rights of those who castigated folks like me that opposed this disastrous and ill-thought war, and support a General that is transparently playing a political role in supporting the current administration’s effort to run out the clock on our involvement in Iraq.
I can’t really afford it, but your vote earns Moveon $100 from my pocket.
Kindest regards,
And one more.
Dear Senator Wyden,
Thank you for your Nay vote on the Moveon amendment. Some folks need to move on. Move on from using the legislative branch to re-direct national debate about the Iraq war to newspaper advertisements.
Kindest regards,
