A friend of mine has a daughter making a video about NCLB. She wants to interview a teacher as part of her project. I am seeking input from the DK community about what to say- essentially I want to be factually correct and hit some mostall major problems with NCLB...
First of all, from my perspective, NCLB has meant all test prep, all the time. Second, at my school, a perfectly good reading program- Success For All- was scrapped. I have been told that this program lost the support of the Education department, but that this decision was largely driven by politics, not by merit. Something to do with who was and was not ponying up $$ to the RNC, perhaps?
Finally, I have heard that many schools have been labeled as failing because of statistical quirks-i.e. one small subgroup- not meeting goals when the rest of the school is showing improvement.
I am sure that there are many facets of NCLB that I am not touching. I want to help the student make a good presentation-and I don't want to come across as an ignorantamus. any help & commentary is welcome. Thanks!
