I am the mother of two sons, a wife, and a professional woman in a male-dominated field. Everyday--at home and at work--I must be a role model: modeling power and integrity in everything I do.
When Sarah Palin was chosen by John McCain to serve as his vice presidential running mate, it was disheartening to see the number of women who cheered her choice simply because she is a woman. It was particularly disheartening to see women who supported Hilary Clinton turn to McCain because of his Palin pick.
Because sexism is alive and well, women in positions of power and influence must be "better" than their positions require. When a woman with Sarah Palin's inexperience & inability to articulate basic concepts is placed in a position of power, she does a grave disservice to all women.
Our daughters, our sons, our grandchildren, and our nation deserve better.
