McCain ran a commercial where he accused Obama of not picking Clinton because he couldn't handle the 'truth' she spoke during the Democratic primary. Pot. Kettle. Black.
Not to rub salt into the wounds Republicans keep seeing pop-up every time CBS releases a Gov Palin interview clip, but if McCain had picked Gov Romney, there's a good chance the Republicans would be kicking the Democrat's butts right now. They might not have been even with the Democrats before, during or immediately after the conventions, but with the economic crisis going on right now, the Republicans could have pointed to the economic knowledge of Gov Romney instead of having to sequester the seemingly clueless Gov Palin.
The ABC clips were subpar but the CBS clips are incredible. Katy needs an Academy Award for not reacting to Gov Palin's answers. Or at least be allowed input into the sequel to the Zombie Survival Guide.
Watching those CBS interview clips, it's almost like I'm watching a real life enactment of a South Park episode. Even the way she speaks is South Parkesque. And while I have no problem with the speech patterns or mannerisms of anyone, including those from small towns, I do take issue when someone is presented as something they are not. She's not Gov Huckabee who's aw shucks mannerisms and accent hide a very sharp mind. She's truly a mix of Ms Chokesondick with her conservative views and the South Park mayor with her dismissive, authoritarian attitude. While that might be exactly what is needed for the Alaskan political environment, it's not what American needs nor is it what Senator McCain has presented to the public.
The McCain campaign has tried to sell Gov Palin as knowledgeable in areas that she is not. The crap about foreign policy experience, being the most knowledgeable politician with regards to oil/energy policy, executive experience, being against earmarks, etc. was pitched even before she gave her first interview. I'm curious to how much of this propaganda came as a surprise to even the Governor. Anyone would suck at an interview if you had describe how much of a foreign policy expert you were if your only foreign policy experience was living in Chula Vista and annual shopping trips to Tijuana, Mexico.
Gov Palin has said that being the Governor of Alaska was not brain science. In other words, the average person has the ability to adequately run the state of Alaska. And this is probably true of many, if not the majority of the states in our union. But Americans are definitely not in the mood for the Presidency to be run by an average person this time around. The issues facing us means we need an extra-ordinary President and Vice-President. By choosing Gov Palin, someone who is definitely ordinary, Senator McCain has proven he too, deserves that label. He's just an ordinary politician. Unfortunately for him, these are extra-ordinary times.
