Here's a quickie to alert everyone what's happening in Centre County, PA
From Common Cause:
Word has just come in from Amy Zeller at Penn State University that one of the polling places for PSU students has been asking over 1/2 the students to fill out provisional ballots due to their names not showing up on the voting rolls. The polling place is the Knights of Columbus building near the campus. She has contacted the Election Protection hot line, 1-866-OUR-VOTE to report the issue. Power Vote (www.powervote.org) has also sent out one of their election protection volunteers to monitor the situation.
The AP has picked it up as well:
A voting rights advocate says hundreds of Penn State students are being forced to vote by provisional ballot.
James Browning of Common Cause said Tuesday that election workers are not checking supplemental registration books for the names of Penn State students who registered just before the deadline.
If this is widespread, it will be a serious problem. Centre County is a rare blue bastion in central PA, and with the huge gains this year in voter registrations, we need those student votes to count. I'll update if I find out more.
Also, FYI, the earlier reports of huge lines at PSU polling places were true, but it was just a morning glut. Things calmed down after that.
