I had to share this story with you. I teach at a trade-technical school in Gilbert, AZ, and we have students from across the country attending. This morning, one of our newer students dropped a Fedex package at our front desk for pickup.
I asked him what was up, and he told me the story. He's from New Mexico, and had requested his absentee ballot weeks ago. When it hadn't appeared by last night, he started making phone calls. He called his county commissioner, CNN, the local news, his parents - anyone he could think of to complain.
This morning, he was awakened by a courier, delivering his ballot and a pre-paid ($411) Fedex envelope for same day delivery. I believe that the Las Cruces County paid for it, but the important thing is, he got to vote.
When I asked him if it was a vote for Obama, he said, "I'm not sayin'. But I like your sticker." I was sporting both 'I Voted' and 'I voted for Obama' stickers.
I'm glad I didn't have to burn his envelope.
BTW, while I'm here, I had a 1.5 hour wait at the polls in Chandler this morning. Everyone I was in proximity with - save one - was an Obama supporter. I could tell, because the lady next to me in line had her phone go off, and it played the 'Obama' song. I think we all convinced the one holdout that Palin was too much of a chance to take. All in all, it's been an exciting day.
