My Mom and Emily Post taught me to write thank you notes which I hated doing as a child, but given the current import of the recent events in my beloved country, I am now effusively enthusiastic about writing.
Thank you President-elect Barack Obama. Thank you for believing in yourself enough to share your talents and the rest of your life with us. Your decision to run for office was huge. By giving it your all and inspiring so many of us to give it our collective all, you are effectively committed for the rest of your life to being an extremely important public figure. Even after your 8 years as POTUS, you will be the wise advisor perpetually. Thanks for being willing to give up your private life to such a great extent. Thanks for being willing to give up being just an average normal person. Since I am an average normal person, I realize what a huge sacrifice that is. Thank you for working so hard your whole life to develop you skills and knowledge level to be able to become such a competent effective proponent of your ideals. Thank you for having such good alignment with my ideals. Thank you for being practical in your application of your intent. Thank you for being such an amazing example to those who have a desire to strive for excellence but formerly felt they had no chance. Thank you for not smoking and for staying so trim and fit, not only as an example to Americans, but to keep you able to be our POTUS for the full 8 years that I expect.
Thank you First Lady (elect) Michele Obama. Thank you for being so much a wonderful educated powerful person in your own right. Thank you for being such a fabulous support to your husband in his monumental endeavor to become President. Thank you for sacrificing so much private time with your husband, which I realize is the most valuable thing on Earth to any couple. Thank you for joining the campaign in an active way. Your speeches were fabulous and made me wonder why the campaign ever let Barack speak rather than you. Thank you for letting him out of fatherly duties by covering for him with your two beautiful daughters.
Thank you Markos for all your efforts that effectively mobilized us to work actively for the campaign and donate much more that we otherwise would have thought we can afford. Thank you for helping me to get the best return on investment of any investment I have ever made. Thank you for keeping us aware of and active in all the down ticket races. Thank you for getting so many so totally addicted to the best interests of our country. Your work is true patriotism.
Thank you to all the people who make up our vast electorate. Thanks especially to the people who worked in the local field offices of the Democratic Party. Thank you to the newly inspired political activists. Thank you to the old hands who have persevered over decades keeping our liberal/progressive ideals alive. Thank you for guiding the newbies on what to do and how to do it.
Thank you to Keith, Rachel, Jon, Stephen, Tweetie and all the others who kept us rapt with the entertainment of the political season and had moments of true brilliance.
Thank you to John McCain. Someone has to come in second in a two man race.
Thank you to Sarah Palin and Joe The Plumber for being such caricatures of Neocon bloviating ignorance that the choices facing America were starkly obvious. Both of you seemed spawned fully formed from the forehead of Rush Limbaugh, as Athena from Zeus. You are such scary manifestations of Republican hyperbolism that you convinced myriads of people to awaken from the trance-like belief that competence is not important as long as you hate abortion and gays.
Thank you to the rest of the world for seeming to allow America to come back after 8 long years of our country acting like a narcicist run amok. Your graciousness in receiving President-elect Obama and your forgiveness of We The People overwhelms me.
