Here's my fear about the neocon-far right strategy for '10 & '12. They have been so relentless in mouthing off about anything that comes up, often taking the opposite side of whatever side it is President Obama takes. Then after picking the opposing viewpoint, they go in to overdrive with their arguments, whether it be on the 24 hr cable news channels, radio, blogs or e-mags. Some speak softly and rationally, but most rage on endlessly with no rational arguments involved. And it continues, day after day, week after week, month after month. Before long, will the public simply throw their hands up and say "What do you want? Tell me and i'll succomb if it means you'll shut your mouths for a news cycle. You want me to vote for Sarah Palin and Eric Cantor? I'll do it, just SHUT the fuck UP for a second!"
I am beginning to believe this is their strategy. To overwhelm the airwaves with attack after attack, mindless though they may be. The veracity of the arguments don't matter. Any speck of truth that may exist will be exagerated and misrepresented over and over and over. We will be subjected to a stream of fury regarding Iran, North Korea, deficits, govt. health care, deficits, unemployment, gay marriage, etc etc. It will be a continual avalanche of piss and vinegar the likes of which Clinton never saw. Keep in mind, most of the stuff we have heard has been stirred up by not a single major scandal...it's all about policies. Just wait until the slightest scandal erupts around President Obama. Just you freaking wait.
The lies and misrepresntations will become so common that when they are called out it will be brushed off and greeted with a "yeah...so? Who cares and who's listening to the responses anyways?" It's the initial wave that gets the most attention. Nothing else matters. Karl Rove can bitch about ABC giving President Obama a platform to sell his "government plan" but no one remembers the intimate relationship between Fox News and the Bush Administration. Or the fact that he's a proven liar who has no regard for honest dialog concerning real issues. McCain can gripe about President Obama not standing up for freedom in Iran, never minding the fact that just over a year ago he went all Susan Boyle on us and sang about bombing these same protesters to smithereens. Palin moans about "socialism" but doesn't see the irony in her government doling out thousand dollar checks to residents from the oil revenues. Responsibility and respect for truth and dignity are so far off the radar to these people...all they concern themselves with is ripping power from the man who was duly elected.
What it comes down to is this...the country is dealing with a segment of government that is dysfunctional and cares not one bit about governing responsibly. Their sole intention is regaining power. That's it. Clinton gave them an opening, one they exploited to the nth degree. They haven't even waited for an excuse this time around. It's sad, it's pathetic and it must be exposed before it's too late. The Republicans would like nothing more than to see unemployment skyrocket (inherited causes), North Korea to continue shooting off at the mouth, Iraq to become destabilized after the military moves back to their bases and so forth and so on. And if none of those things happen, it won't matter, because a lie, with no shame, can be told in every segment on every show at Fox News, Rush and even the halls of Congress.
The American people will be bombarded to the point where we'll do anything to get it to stop. It's as if we're all in freaking Guantanamo and the far right mouth pieces are the interrogators. After one, two, three years of being lambasted with lies and innuendo screeched from a Marshall stack that goes to 11 we will relent and give in, because we want it to stop. The lies they told along the way aren't important...and neither is the fact that our interests were not considered for one second.
