Tonight, when the President signs the Senate bill, health care becomes a right in this country, not a privilege.
That is the message of overriding importance. Details are of secondary import, and will be worked out over time. But the conversation has forever changed, and it has forever changed because of the leadership of Barack Obama and the skills of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.
Our President has been telling us for a year that (a) the HCR bill must be comprehensive, covering everyone and (b) that the details aren't worth defeat of the bill. He was right. He has accomplished what no President has ever been able to accomplish.
And now, in America we will debate all the issues about health care services, payment, primary care, preventive care, public options... but it is highly unlikely anyone will be able to take away again our right to health care.
