Where's the message?
Since the November 2nd election defeat that devastated the democratic party from state to state I've seen no so called party big wig come out and elaborate to the public what the democratic party plans to do going forward to reconnect to a mass set of voters that turned away from the party at the polls. All I've seen is dejection and glum looks on the faces of leaders, from the President to the members of congress. This leaders don't seem to have a sense of purpose or direction, they seem unable and unwilling to counter the rising tide of a right-wing machine that has swept through the news media, both print and television.
The current state of the democratic party is one that I can barely recognize, and that's saying something when the victories of 2006 and 2008 are still fresh in my mind. What has happened? Why does it seem like this party in its current form seems to lack any will or fight in it? Why is it that though the party still has control of the White-house and Senate I fill like I'm trapped in a sweeping Right-wing tide that can't be stopped. I consider myself a true blue die hard progressive who supports the democratic party because they're most sympathetic to my views. But in its current form I'm finding myself drifting away from the democratic party as a whole, and when I ask myself why is that. The answer that keeps coming into my head is that I just don't know what the party stands for anymore. There seems to be no conviction to fight for anything anymore within the leadership of the democratic party, there's almost this sense of eternal doom that I pick up from the leadership when I see almost all of them speak on TV. Right after 2008 when the republican party got destroyed it wasn't long before we knew what their tactic for survival would be, they where going to become the party of NO regardless of what the consequences for them might be. Boehner and McConnell were proclaiming just weeks after then president Obama was still president elect that they would be oppossed to most of what the new president would be proposing and damn did they oppose. Their tactic worked. They said it loud and clear after their drubbing what they would be for, and people rewarded them at the polls just weeks ago. Since the democratic party's shelllacking I have not seen one single leader clearly state what the party will be for or were it's going, what it'll oppose and what it's willing to accept. The democratic party right now as I speak is one wiithout a message. And if there's no message there'll be no victory. Again I ask, what does the Democratic party stand for?
