We need to demonize Blacks whenever possible!
At all costs, do so. That's the ticket, or it has been for so long. It has the added benefit of distracting folks from other, more meaningful discussions.
Want to spotlight voter fraud? ACORN to the rescue of FOX News! Need more? Take a picture of two (2!) bad looking, but non-interfering, so-called Black Panthers in front of a Philadelphia polling place. Ignore entirely the actual instances of GOP fraud that have occurred and for which jail time is being served.
Has legislative fraud become a problem? Investigate Rangel and Waters with a partisan investigative body using shoddy techniques. Ignore entirely the actual crimes committed by serving member of the GOP (Sanford, Vitter, Ensign)
Need a boogeyman to explain the economic problems felts by the entire world? Black people to the rescue! We did it! Despite being on the lowest economic rung on the world's money ladder, Black Americans were able to trash the world's economy. Not derivatives traders. Not hedge fund managers, but Blacks. And many folks sucked up these misrepresentations. Others, knowing them to be incorrect, used them to advance their own agandas (will Wm O'Reilly please pick up the black discourtesy phone?).
And now, the internet and our liberal media show all Vick, all the time and none in a positive light.
If one-tenth of the journalistic and public frenzy surrounding Michael Vick was applied to those who are hedge fund managers or derivatives traders, the real evil being done to this country might become apparent.
If one-tenth of the journalistic and public frenzy surrounding Michael Vick was applied to the pre-Iraq war facts, that war might have been avoided.
If one-tenth of the journalistic and public frenzy surrounding Michael Vick was applied to investigating how US Blacks impact US statistics, it might become known that Black Americans, despite being six-tenths of one percent of the world's population or 8.3 percent (40 million / 6.8 billion), make up one-twelfth of the world's (the World's!) prison population.
NY Time 4/2008 article
If one-tenth of the journalistic and public frenzy surrounding Michael Vick was applied to investigating how US Blacks impact US educational statistics, it might become known that Black Americans are doing so poorly that we skew the national numbers to the point that uncaring folks can ignore numbers reported for things like infant mortality and educational success rates because, if it were not for Blacks, the US numbers would be pretty good. In other words, for white Americans, the numbers can be ignored.
Howler article
There are plenty of reasons (unfortunately) to view some Blacks through a negative lens. We often make it too easy. But not all of us and not always.
By all means, discuss Mike Vick. He is not Wikileaks, the Gulf of Mexico, the price of gas, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, the Middle East, the US economy, media consolidation, corporate personhood, habeas corpus or decling housing prices. Let's ignore these.
