...then what does that make the Democratic Party?
As the NYT reported this morning, Lanny Davis--that tireless fighter for the Democratic Party, defense counsel to Bill Clinton during the impeachment hearings, major domo to the Hillary Clinton campaign, has quit his job as counsel bagman pimp lobbyist to the esteemed Laurent Gbagdo, the Ivory Coast President who doesn't think that losing an election means you have to leave office.
It's heartbreakingly sad that Davis must chuck his $100K-per month retainer out the window. So go ahead...weep for Davis...because Davis is us, and it's folks like him that fuck up the party.
Lanny Davis' body of work is an embarassingly amoral, albeit profitable one. Try to find a common theme here:
- Board member for The Israel Project, a non-profit which puts a happy face on tiny little unprotected Israel.
- Lobbyist for the Pakistani government.
- Public apologist for Rep. Jane Harman in her still-uninvestigated AIPAC scandal.
- Treasurer for a Joe Liberman PAC.
- Professional shill for Teodoro Mbasogo,
president dictator murderer-in-chief of Equatorial Guinea.
That's just a sampler of Davis' background. It gets worse, because the only theme to Lanny Davis' work is grift.
And I know that you, too, have a particular concern when a lobbyist is also an attorney. Because when a tinpot dictator casually mentions the fact that he's been running death squads against the competition for the last several years, the lobbyist then becomes attorney, protected by a viable privilege against having to give testimony. It's a nice thing to have in your pocket, particularly when you've developed a concentration in murdering thieves who run countries.
While Davis is viewed as a go-to guy by so many prominent Democrats, why do the Dems let its party be pimped out and made corporate-safe by the likes of Lanny Davis, a person who stands for...nothing?
It's merely coincidental that Davis throws his murdering dictator of a client under the bus on the same day as the Times reports that a union of African nations are planning a similar under-bus fate for Gbadgo. There would have been no way that Davis would have caught wind of the upcoming NYT piece. No possible way he could have known.
Sadly, Davis is but one shark in a sea of folks who feast at the top of the Democratic Party food chain. Davis' business isn't about the Dems. It's just about, well, business.
