A democratic primary is a must at this point.
A democratic party presidential primary is a must at this point, there's no two ways about it. Not that a primary at this junction has any real chance of succeding but it might just be the wake up call the president needs to realize he's losing a small section of the party that will cost him reelection. Right now from my own vantage point I see a president heading for defeat in 2012, they don't seem to notice it at the white-house of cause. I don't blame them, the president and his team think the reason Democrats where clobbered in 2010 was because of the so called independent voter. I supppose that was part of it, but another reason might just have been because a large section of the democratic party voters stayed home. They had no reason to come out and vote because they saw an administration willing to sell out the democratic party principle so they could be liked by the beltway media and the Paul Ryan's of the world.
And what we saw happen yesterday was another full blown sellout, another capitulation to the crazy tea party movement. President Obama doesn't have the democratic party principles I grew up with. A principle that says we fight for the poor and the sick regardless of the situation. To stand up against the rich corporate overlords who are seeking to anihalate a working class they have already destroyed. Principles matter to we progressives. Or at least I want to believe it does. And the closest thing to a progressive party we have in this country is the democratic party. And what happens when the head of that democratic party has become nothing more than a moderate republican? It's a must, regardless of whether we can win it or not that a primary challenger emerge. Just to show the powerful elites that someone for once still believes in a Goddamn thing.
As already afermentioned, would a primary opponent succedd at this point? Probably not. But it has to be a primary challenger that runs on principle. Someone willing to call out the current bullshit been doled out by this president. Someone willing to say sir, I'm sorry but you're not representing the democratic wing of the democratic party. And if you continue to play footsie with a tea party hell bent on destroying our great country, Sir many of us will gladly watch you succumb to defeat in 2012 because you're not worthy of calling yourself a democrat.
