Apparently swing-voters have such short attention spans that they really do make their voting decisions by seeing paid political advertising on tee-vee and on billboards. Citizens United has opened the door for corporations to spend whatever they want on lots and lots of expensive right-wing and anti-democratic advertising in the upcoming elections.
But we can fight them on the streets! Bumper stickers are the perfect vehicle for our vehicles- er, I mean, the perfect vehicle for capturing the short attention spans of our swing-voter brethren.
Short, sweet, not-so-sweet, smart, pithy, true, FUNNY... I'm asking the community to bring out their inner bumper sticker generator. Got a few minutes? Got a few ideas? Jot 'em down here in the comments. All ideas are welcome, so long as they'll fit on a bumper sticker, and remember that many 4 letter words will get you a traffic citation if you drive around with them spelled out... and honey may draw more voters than vinegar.
There are many printing companies available online which will, for a small fee, print your bumper sticker (I'm not linking because I don't want to be accused of shilling for one in particular). You can get just a few, or many more, and hand them out to your friends and co-liberals. This is true grass-roots campaigning. I've been concerned for some time that my donations to the Party can, and often do go outside of my district and often go to support candidates that I disagree with. Personally, I think this will do more good than making a donation to the Party, and it certainly gives us more control over our message. In 2008, the hubby and I handed out 50 "Republicans for Voldemort" bumper stickers that we'd bought online. It was fun, we got to meet lots of fellow-travelers, and we still spot them around town.
So, love up your creativity, and share it with the community! Have a wonderful Memorial Day, and remember those who fought for your right to be a Liberal!
