It’s hard to believe he’s been gone for almost twenty years. However he’s still very much with us thanks to radio, as well as vinyls, CDs, boxsets and downloads still sell at supersonic speeds. There are some fantastic Queen tribute bands as well. “We Will Rock You”, a musical by Queen and Ben Elton is in its tenth year on the West End, at the Dominion Theatre. This year WWRY won the Olivier Award for best musical.
This is the first of three Queen diaries I'm doing between now and November 24th. After all it’s their 40th anniversary year. The second will be in October 31 to showcase some of great costumes Queen used. The last one will be on November 24th, the 20th anniversary of Freddie’s death, and will touch on both Freddie's battle, and my personal experience in loving and caring for someone with AIDS, and where we are now in the world of HIV/AIDS research and therapy.
There’s so much more to tell, but for now, let’s just celebrate the greatest, the sexiest front man in history with some celeb birthday wishes!
Happy birthday, Fred - I still love you!
Update: My first rec list! Thank you all and thank you Freddie!
We start with Freddie Mercury - The Official 65th Birthday Video!
Who could forget the forever fabulous, glamorous porcine goddess!
And here is Billy Corgan, of Smashing Pumpkins. Wow, he's cute!
The always lovely Katie Perry
Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance (with great haircolor)
Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters, with better hair than I.
You won't get to see it until tomorrow, because of the lame Labor Google thing. (Sorry but I say what I want!) Anyway here a preview of Google's Freddie Mercury Logo Doodle.
5:29 PM PT: I must go feed my family, and especially my cat Leo, who rules all. BBL.
