A quick Post to check in with Kossacks for insight. Have you ever been asked to verify your dependents such as children, spouse, others? How was it communicated to you? Was it when you first signed up for healthcare insurance (if it was even offered?
Recently there were changes at my husband's office, where the company was bought by a private equity firm. In their effort to root out all the evildoers at the company - for whom he has worked five years - he was sent an email by bswift.com asking for dependent verification information. In other words, our marriage certificate. I was trying to figure out why we were 'randomly' selected, and the only thing I can think of is that both my spouse and I kept our family names after marriage. But we do not know.
Anyone else run into this problem? Is there a way to fight this? We have been married 15 years, and we have NEVER been asked to produce proof of marriage for any other employers, even at the very first health insurance enrollment! I can't find the certificate, but we found that we could get a copy from the County. My husband found a record, and it would cost us $9 which isn't a big deal.
Much ado about nothing?
