Earlier this fall, the White House announced the launch of a site to allow citizens to create or sign petitions on issues facing our country. Such petitions require 150 signatures to become publicly visible at the site, and 5,000 signatures to generate a response from the White House.
As stated at that site, the process works as follows:
1) Create or Sign a Petition
Anyone 13 or older can create or sign a petition on WhiteHouse.gov asking the Obama Administration to take action on a range of important issues facing our country. To get started you’ll need to create an account and verify your email address. Start thinking about the issues that matter to you, what you would like the Obama Administration to do to address the important challenges facing our country, and who you’ll ask to join you.
2) Build Support and Gather Signatures
Creating or signing a petition is just the first step. It’s up to you to build support for a petition and gather even more signatures. Use email, Facebook, Twitter and word of mouth to tell your friends, family and coworkers about the petitions you care about.
2) The White House Reviews and Responds
if at least 5,000 signatures are gathered.
This group is to be used to help announce, explore, coordinate, develop, publicize, promote and aid in signature gathering for such petitions initiated by Kossacks.
In an earlier diary, I reviewed and summarized the diaries currently visible at the White House web site, and in an update, listed and linked to petitions initiated by dKos members that came to my attention in the comments. There were a total of 12, all in need of more signatures in order to become visible at the White House site. Please see that diary to review those petitions and add signatures to those you like.
Earlier today, jpmasser wrote a wonderful diary entitled How to Organize: The Top Ten Petitions to the Administration at 'We The People', encouraging us to participate in this process in an organized fashion, in order to get our voices heard on issues that matter most to us. I hope this group will help us do just that.
If you would like to join and/or contribute, or have written a diary announcing a petition, and would like to have it republished to this group, please leave a message in the comments.
