My wife sued my stepson's father for child support and the DNA test results prove he is indeed the biological father. So far it sounds like a slam-dunk case, but it is being handled by Florida, and my confidence level in this particular state is on shaky ground.
More below the tangled orange christmas lights...
Here's the interesting part. I just got served with a lawsuit summons in which both the biological father and I are being sued for child support from the date of the child's birth. I'm a little bemused since the child is my stepson and lives in my house and we do all that normal father-son stuff. Great kid. It just seems a little silly and a little useless for the State of Florida to sue me to support someone I'm already supporting. They would be taking money out of my banking account and then putting it right back into my bank account so I can buy jeans, hot dogs, and video games for my step son.
The entire reason for my wife suing her deadbeat ex for child support is the fact that he's a deadbeat and it's time to pay up. I don't want the State of Florida to let his slimy ass wriggle off the hook so I need to know how to respond to the summons in a way that serves justice.
Needless to say, I'm going to get an attorney and respond to the summons. However I know Kossacks are a fountain of knowledge so I thought I'd ping you all for information. I'd like to be intellectually armed before I talk to the attorney.
Have any other step parents ever been through this? How did it come out?
Thanks, all
Dave
