I admit it, but the link was just there, like a piece of chocolate waiting to be eaten. And I love chocolate so I took a big bite.
But maybe I should go back a bit. Back to a time when there weren’t any accounts for Daily Kos.
My sister found the site and sent me a link. I don’t know why but the site was addictive. Soon I found myself checking the site several times a day.
Skip forward to kos deciding to make us sign up if we wanted to comment. At that time I thought everything should be free and anonymous online. So my thoughts on it were WTF kos? I couldn’t see why he would want to do that. And I wasn’t going to do it!
I held out for what felt like 2 weeks, but in reality was 3 days.
It took a long time before I read any diaries. I thought they were regular diaries like a teenager might keep. And I had no interest in reading peoples dirty laundry. So I probably missed some good stuff for awhile.
As the site evolved I could see that kos had been smarter than I gave him credit for. It grew by leaps and bounds and people started working together to strengthen their impact. And this has only grown stronger as the years have passed, with the latest community activity being The List: Cat-Herding Edition (The latest list diary)
Okay, so back to me cheating.
When eeff dangled that link in front of my nose I couldn’t keep myself from cheating and checking it out, repeatedly, with tears of disbelief as eeff, Clem Yeobright, CalNM and randallt donated money for a lifetime kos subscription for me.
Now I’ve known eeff and randallt since 2006. We’ve worked together on the Election Diary Rescue every election year since 2006 and I can’t imagine any better, more committed, (okay sometimes I think we should be committed) group to work with. So I could see them wanting to help me.
I’m mainly a lurker most people don’t know me. So it was a complete surprise when Clem Yeobright and CalNM donated for the subscription to me. I doubt if they had a clue who I was.
Thank you so very much you four. You’ve seriously made my year.
Thanks also to the anonymous person that put me on the list in the first place. I think I know who you are.
And of course thanks to all the other people who have been doing so much to keep this front and center and make it all work. I think you are all angels!
I just went over and donated $25 towards a subscription for truong son traveler.
I didn’t know it but I wasn’t supposed to send my money to Nurse Kelley until the $100 threshold had been met. Here’s the pledge thread if you would like to help him. As I write this we still need $45 more for a lifetime subscription.
6:17 PM PT: truong son traveler is now covered! Thanks eeff and suejazz!
