Perhaps they'll try to excommunicate me.
To which I'd say, go ahead, make my day.
The text:
So I want to get this straight, because I'm a practicing Catholic who's supposed to respect you people:
Contraception, an issue on which 98% of Catholic women ignore your directive, sparks "outrage" and naked political pandering and thinly veiled threats, but decades of molestation and child rape and the concerted coverup of such can't produce a coherent, effective response or restitution.
Do I have that about right?
I could not be more embarrassed by the alleged leadership of this church. What a disgrace.
I'm a lawyer, I've seen the horrific effects of your reckless disregard for children up close and concretely, and it's a minor miracle that more of you so-called men of God, all the way up to the Vatican, aren't rotting in prison. God knows I'd prosecute the hell out of you if I had the authority.
So go ahead and pretend that we in the laity give a damn about your selective outrage over non-issues. We don't, and in fact it's embarrassing. We do however care deeply about the evil you allowed to be perpetrated upon our children, an evil which not only ruined lives but forever stained the reputation of our church.
Please. Spare us the sanctimonious pandering on issues like contraception and homosexuality and whatever other trivial culture war issue du jour boils your blood and take responsibility for the criminality and brutal evil you have enabled against your most vulnerable and sacred of your flock.
What a despicable, disgusting spectacle you have foisted upon us. May God have mercy on you.
Sincerely,
Redacted
