Admittedly not much of a diary, but as a parent, one occasionally likes to show off the work of their offspring.
Orange squiggly ensues:
My daughter's in her mid 30s and I've long been aware of her philosophy, politics, and sense of humor. I have a constant internal battle (nature vs. nurture), but I think we've all settled on the apple not falling far from the tree.
Anyway, I don't even know if this is her original work, but she's said it and posted about it every year for several years, so even if it isn't, I don't hear it anywhere else. In any event, no matter whose it is, the quote perfectly captures the raison d'étre for the pseudo holiday (we're still getting mail, right?).
Remember how flower and candy sales and their attendant newspaper ads always seem to slump around late September. For a while there was a totally manufactured thing going on called "Sweetest Day" designed to fill in that income gap for the described merchants. Haven't seen entreaties for that abomination in ages.
Anyway, this is just a meta diary to share the feeling of the day with you.
