I wrote the following letter to Del. Sam Arora (D-19). It may not be much, but Sam Arora needs to know that he cannot have it both ways. He cannot promise his constituents his support for marriage equality, gladly take our money, and then smile while stabbing us in the back. If you live in in District 19, anywhere in Maryland, or even just are as upset with Del. Arora's betrayal, please send him an email to express your dissapointment in his lack of leadership and lack.
Good afternoon Del. Arora,
When I worked to get you elected to the House of Delegates in 2010, I was excited to have a fellow young progressive in elected. After your lack of leadership and flat out lies about your support for marriage equally, all that I can see of that I am very disappointed in you.
When you ran in 2010, you promised to support marriage equality legislation. You even were an original co-sponsor of the marriage equality bill in the 2011 legislative session. But for whatever reason, you decided that ignoring the desires of the people that sent you to Annapolis outweighed keeping a campaign promise. You were happy to take our donations claiming to be a progressive, but you were also happy to stab us in the back once you got into office
Del. Arora, we elected you to the House of Delegates to make tough decisions. We elected you to stand up for equality, justice, and progressive ideals. We elected you based on promises that you made. But, after last Friday's vote, we now know that you are not the man we thought we elected.
I wish you the best, but next election cycle I will be working to elect a real progressive to the House. I now know you a member of the George Wallace wing of the Democratic Party. And just as Wallace failed to stop the march of progress towards civil rights, you too will not stop our state from welcoming all people to enjoy their full rights under the law.
