This was the tweet that went out early this morning from Rev. Al Sharpton:
"My mother, Ada Sharpton passed in the early hours of this morning. She was my all. I hope God will give her now, PEACE.I love you, Mom."
I was watching Morning Joe and his message to them was read on-air. I am sure his heart was breaking, and yet he continued on to Florida for the planned rally in support of the family of Trayvon Martin. He will go to Alabama to make arrangements after the rally.
His Mother, Ada (Richards) Sharpton was 87 years old and suffering from Alzheimers and dementia. If you have seen him talk about his mother, you can sense how strong the bond was between them.
I found this picture of her from 2001 along with his daughters: http://news.yahoo.com/...

Thursday, March 22, 2012 — Ada Sharpton, the mother of Reverend Al Sharpton, passed away in the early morning hours today in Dothan, Alabama, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and Dementia. She was 87-years-old. Her son Rev. Al Sharpton was informed while boarding a flight to Florida for his rally for Trayvon Martin. Rev. Sharpton will head to Alabama to make funeral arrangements following the protest in Florida. He is accompanied on the flight by former New York Governor David Paterson.
I don't know if he reads Daily Kos; but please feel free to leave condolences for Rev. Al and I will make sure a link gets forwarded to him at MSNBC and also to Ms. Noerdlinger at The National Action Network.
Perhaps tonight as he stands with a mother who is mourning her son he will find some comfort as a son who is mourning his mother. I sense both will be smiling down on them.
My thoughts and prayers are with Reverend Al Sharpton and his family tonight.
For Ms. Ada Richards Sharpton
