And by "Private Sector" I mean "Mitt's Sector," like he does...
This morning on FTN:
"Our banks are on a much stronger basis than they were at the time of the last economic crisis, and they have built their capital base and their equity base, and worked through a lot of their toxic assets and toxic loans..."
That's not spin. He wasn't quoting someone else or quoting someone who was quoting someone else. How does he think they were able to do that? It certainly wasn't prevented by the Obama administration. It certainly wasn't because the broader policies of the administration have shoved the economy back off the cliff. Worked through their toxic assets? Yeah, that's what Obama's Treasury and Fed did, otherwise known as "the bank bailouts."
My question for Romney would have been, "As you said about Detroit, do you also believe that we should have "Let Wall Street Go Bankrupt"?
___________
MORE TRICKLE DOWN TAXES
Mitt wants to "keep the progressivity of the code." So no flat tax, but the angle of that progressive line sure looks like it's getting closer to flat. Mitt this morning:
"I want to keep the progressivity of the code. One of the absolute requirements of any tax reform that I have in mind, is that people at the high end, whether you call it the one percent or the two percent or the half-percent, the people at the high end will still pay the same share of the tax burden that they're paying now. I'm not looking for a tax cut for the very wealthiest, I'm looking to take tax rates down for everyone. And also to make sure that we stimulate growth by doing so and jobs; for me this is all about creating good jobs."
Schiefer sought clarification, and then the money quote:
"I think it's important to say I'm not looking to reduce the burden paid by the wealthiest. I'm looking to keep the burden paid by the wealthiest as the same share as it is today."
I do agree with Mitt on one thing: "people are tired of being tired." Yes, Mitt, and I'm tired of being tired of you.
*BONUS* Mitt says he has an Olympic athlete in the family! A HORSE! His wife along with two other people bought it and trained and by golly gee wiz, they're going to London, but of course he has to stay here for his campaign. I literally cannot pronounce the name of the sport. Sounded French. He says it was meaningful for her to get back on a horse after suffering MS. I can empathize with that. However, most people after recovering from a major illness - they have to get back to a job. If they didn't lose it while they were sick. Doesn't sound like the private sector's too bad for you, Mitt. As Mitt says, "Isn't that something?!"
*WEIRD* Mitt thinks the economy needs a "reboot." Think about that. A "reboot." In other words, just press a button and let everything work itself back to "right." Like when your computer starts crunching and slows down like our economy and it's just generally messed beyond complication - you know, just reboot it! Just hold the button down and release! Mitt Romney thinks the economy just needs someone - "a new president" - to just press the restart button.
Later he referred to his wife's MS flare-up on Super Tuesday that she didn't tell him about, because he would have "shut her down" and told her "to go back home and take some rest and see the people who give you care and get you tuned back up again."
My god. "Shut her down" (like a machine)? "Take some rest (who "takes rest")? And most noxiously, "get you tuned back up again"? What planet is this man from.
