So Mitt Romney had a good debate. He was full of shit, as usual, but he was convincingly full of shit. Obama didn't call him on it as well as he should, and there were some missed opportunities. For the first time in about 5 weeks, had a good day. The media, desperate to sell their crappy content, will report this as "Romney's Comeback" and try to make it a horserace again.
So are you gonna cry about it? Or are you going to get off your ass and do something about it?
This thing was always going to be a dogfight. It was never going to be easy to beat a candidate who's been running for President the last 5 years and is backed by billion dollar SuperPacs. It was always going to take every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears that we have. Now it's going to require it more than ever.
So those doors you were planning to make for the President, those phone calls you were planning to make, that money you were going to donate, now's the time to DOUBLE them. Commit to do more than you were planing to do the day before. That's how we're going to win this thing.
Go to sleep knowing that one debate does not an election make. The truth is debates are only watched by a percentage of voters, and more voters make up their mind earlier in the process than ever before. In the 70's and 80's debates may have carried more weight, when people tune into the election later and there were less ways of getting information. But in the age of the internet and the billion dollar election, voters are inundated with more election information more now than ever. Romney may get a small bump in the polls, but this night will not make or break this election.
There's a vice presidential debate, and two more presidential debates. Hopefully the President and his team will learn from their mistakes on this debate, and come out stronger and more forceful in the next ones.
But at the end of the day, we can't control what the President and Mitt Romney do. We can only control ourselves. So what are you gonna do? You gonna sit at home and cry about it, or get off your ass and win this election?
