This is my first diary. I'm a quite new member, and I am happy with this community. I do, however, find myself taken aback to the fairly common scatological metaphors I read in diaries and comments. In my writing I have preferred to find less-used metaphors or more accurate language. However, after reflection, I must admit that "asshole" is indeed a quite accurate metaphor for Mitt Romney. Keep reading after the fold.
If you consider the GOP agenda to be--on the whole-- preservation of cultural trends which include theocratic tendencies, racism, and the glorification of unfettered greed under the guise of "freedom," I think we can safely call that agenda a kind of constipation of the body politic. What Mitt Romney particularly excelled at was frank illustration of that worldview.
If there's one thing our new coalition of minorities, single women, the young, and old-time liberals knows how to embrace and navigate, it's the ever-evolving scenario of more human rights for ever-larger groups despite daily uncertainties and our multicultural national milieu.
Romney's gaffes and gish-galloping helped a majority of us to recognize that it is well past the time to digest and eliminate the injustices and excesses of the "good old boy old guard." Let's hope that the equivalent of a colonic cleansing helps clean our body politic of that old toxic stew that was making us sick enough to start wrong wars, gamble away the economy to Wall Street, and push sanctimonious holier-than-thou laws on to the books aimed at women's heath concerns.
If such is the case, Romney will have been a worthy asshole.
