A missive for our illustrious Speaker of the House.
I really thought I should send him something for his exemplary performance to date, so I sent him this:
Speaker Boehner:
For the last few years you and your party have done all you can to prevent the American economy from taking off. You have brought one catastrophe after another upon us, causing the downgrade of America's credit rating and strangling American jobs while you posture for your reality-challenged base, prop up your discredited and destructive ideology, and flagrantly demonstrate your fealty to your only real constituencies: corporate “persons” and the ultra-wealthy.
And now you think you're going to get away with fobbing off the blame for the sequester onto the President? Ha! I don't think so. We, who are out here without health insurance and living paycheck to paycheck, know whom to blame for the debt and deficit in the first place. We know on whose watch the economy melted down. We know which party passed the Bush tax cuts and blew a budget surplus. We know who mired us in two wars, one based on lies, and added them to the national debt. We know who cynically passed Medicare Part D while preventing Medicare from negotiating drug prices. We know who gutted the financial regulatory bodies that were supposed to be watching out for the American people. We know which party shrugged off deficits as things that "don't matter." We know who bragged that he got 98% of what he wanted when the sequester was passed. We know who cried out on the floor of the House the Republican motto, "Hell no you can't!" We know which party looks more and more anti-American every day.
We also know which party’s House majority rests not on winning the popular vote but on gaming the system, i.e., cheating. And which party’s ideas were given a “thumpin’” in the last election. The only upside that I can find in this current contrivance of malevolent fools, the sequester, is that your open hostility to what the Constitution calls the general welfare will hasten the well-deserved death of the Republican Party.
