This is disappointing stuff to hear.
From the New York Times front web page:
President Obama on Wednesday offered a strong defense of his potential choice of Lawrence H. Summers to head the Federal Reserve, though he said no final choice had been made.
Huh? Has he been listening at all to the disgust raised by the possibility that Summers might be chosen to head the Federal Reserve? Sure! He's been listening and he doesn't like what he's heard.
Speaking to members of the House Democratic caucus on Capitol Hill, Mr. Obama said in answer to a “barbed question” from a lawmaker that he believed Mr. Summers, a former senior economic adviser to the president, had been maligned in the liberal news media, according to Representative Gerald E. Connolly, Democrat of Virginia, who took part in the meeting.
Poor Larry! Larry is a gentle fellow who has simply been misunderstood. Larry has been picked on by those bullies in the liberal press. I suppose Larry has also been picked on by those goofy Democratic Senators. You know, those Democratic radicals like Diane Feinstein.
If we just knew Larry like Obama knows Larry we would understand this:
According to Mr. Connolly’s account, the president described Mr. Summers as a rock of stability who deserved credit for helping steer the American economy back from the financial crisis of 2008 and the ensuing recession...
You see, I always just thought Larry was a rock. Silly me.
