Tonight Dad and I had dinner at Olive Garden.
My sister had given him a $50 gift certificate via Facebook for Olive Garden. Since OG is among the big restaurant companies who have been cutting back workers hours in order to screw them from getting Health Insurance via ObamaCare, he had said he didn't want to eat there anymore, but since baby sister got him the gift, they already had the money, so there was no point in not using it because then they'd get all the money. So we went, and the food was pretty good, and the waiter was good attentive, and a nice guy.
When we were packing up, I asked him, "How do you like working here? Do they pay you well?"
He started to reply, a bit hesitantly (for good reason as I was about to find out), and said that he liked working there, although "it's a bit corporate". At that moment a manager, a middle aged man, suddenly appeared and said loudly and forcefully, "He loves working here!". The waiter turned and walked away at this point and the manager continued, "he makes minimum wage plus tips", and then turned and walked away.
It was rather strange and creepy the way the manager suddenly popped up and interjected his view of what the 'employee thought'. Dad was also taken aback by the manager's action. We both wondered what it must be like to work for that corporation.
Dad still has $18 left on the gift card, so we'll finish that off at another time. After that, it will be a long time before we go back to Olive Garden
