It's past time we acknowledge our debt to the GOP's governing of our nation. We've had our differences with them certainly, especially lately, and some conservative Republicans are resentful that we don't seem to respect them enough to defer to their every whim. As Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R-Ind) eloquently stated as the government shutdown began:
We’re not going to be disrespected. We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.”
Senator Rand Paul (R-KyJelly) was especially articulate as well:
I think if we keep saying 'We wanted to defund it. We fought for that but now we're willing to compromise on this,' I think they can't -- we're gonna, I think -- well I know we don't want to be here, but we're gonna win this I think.
I feel their pain, and hope that there is something we can do to lift them out of depression. So I wrote the GOP House members a letter via the NYT (not yet accepted)
Dear Republican House Members;
We really do love and respect you despite our recent misunderstandings. Yes, we do. In fact, many of us are signing the petition to re-name Thanksgiving Day, National Republican Appreciation Day! Certainly THAT is something we can get together on.
And while you're at it, please help pass a clean CR soon. Because we all just love you to death.
Sincerely,
The American People
Now I wanted to put a petition on the 'We the People' section of www.whitehouse.gov but for some reason the site doesn't appear to working at the moment. So I will post it below the frosted orange coprolite for your consideration and amendment.
A petition:
BACKGROUND: some of the most conservative GOP members of Congress do not not feel as if the American People sufficiently appreciate their perfectly reasonable point of view, and in fact rejects denial of affordable health insurance to more than 25 million currently uninsured citizens. The American People strangely seems also not to realize the fiscal wisdom of shutting down the federal government at the minimal cost of $300 million each day, when there actually ought to be no government at all requiring funding, and putting millions of Americans at risk by the furlough of 800,000 federal workers. The American People now realizes how much pain and suffering this rejection of the GOP's position causes the oppressed conservatives and wishes to kiss the boo-boo and make it better.
PETITION: We the People of the United States do hereby petition Congress to enact a National GOP Awareness and Appreciation Day to thank the party for their great contributions to American government and to the well-being of all Americans. It will supplant the holiday currently known as Thanksgiving Day. No turkeys shall become unemployed as a result of this action. We acknowledge the sadness, indignation, and inferiority this Party has suffered because of the ill-feelings toward them by the vast majority of the American People. We feel bad as well, and wish to make it up to the GOP for our unkindness.
KNOW THAT: the American People loves and respects the Republican Party; we love you to death, just as we do pandas, and in the hope that, in the midst of the current government shutdown, the pandas in the National Zoo are fed and ultimately survive.
You know, my first take on this was 'Get stuffed, Republicans! It's only weeks till Turkey Day.' But I decided to be polite instead.
