Many members of Daily Kos are parents. Imagine this scenario.
Your child is supposed to eat their vegetables at dinner. They try to bargain that if they are given ice cream first, then they may eat their vegetables.
As a parent, is it a good idea to negotiate the terms of a necessity?
Now, it comes up that there is some household chore that the child is responsible for. For arguments sake, let's call it "raising the debt cieling".
The child says that they will "raise the debt cieling", as long as you are willing to provide ice cream for them before they eat their vegetables.
As a parent, is it a good idea to allow the acquiesence to one necessity allow the negotiation of a prior, unmet, necessity?
This is the framing for this situation. John Boehner wants to negotiate concession for meeting his responsibilities. In a childish manner, he thinks that this is a possibility. The President is rightly saying "No. Eat your damned peas."
