Now Republicans all believe in “choice”! A word heretofore not uttered by any realistic Republican wanting to get reelected.
Now they joyously proclaim the mantle of advocates of “choice”, where poor exploited working people who haven’t had a real wage increase for thirty or forty years in spite of 400% GDP growth over that time period, are given the “choice” of “selecting” a $ 50.00 monthly premium “insurance plan”.
Apparently, the Major Medical 80/20 comprehensive insurance plan with a $ 150.00 deductible we all had decades ago inexplicably isn’t to the liking of today’s working families. Instead, they “choose” to pay $ 50.00 monthly for “insurance” that offers a small stipend to defray the cost of doctor’s office visits, outpatient surgery, and in some cases prescriptions.
Apparently, working people would rather risk intergenerational financial ruin and devastating poverty than pay a mere $ 1-2,000 monthly for what I used to get for practically free at my job. Republicans are really glad they “choose” to “shop” in the “open marketplace” and “decide” what is “best for their families”, instead of what the gubmint thinks is best.
Who knew? All along Republicans were totally for “choice” and have worked assiduously for over thirty years making sure “the children” and “hard working American families” have the “choices” they deserve.
Food or major medical insurance? Rent or major medical insurance? Utilities or major medical insurance? Bankrupting your family’s life savings to treat a sick child, or major medical insurance?
“Choice” is a word easily crammed back down the throats of any Republican with the audacity to laud the “choices” facing today’s impoverished workers.
They didn’t choose “free trade”, deregulation of banking and the derivatives markets, telecommunications, and “welfare reform” – campaign contributors did – all 1% of them.
