As the annual poutrage about the war on Christmas ramps up to full snit, I thought I might give Bill O'Reily a hand by laying out some simple guidelines as to what is acceptable and what is not. I don't have unlimited time on my hands, so I'll have to limit myself to songs. Specifically, Christmas songs.
Billy the Bully's whole "War On Christmas" is about whether or not the word 'Christmas' is used in a given context. The intended spirit behind say 'Happy Holidays', or a desire to be more inclusive, don't seem to matter to him. If the word Christmas ain't used, you are a liberal heathen bent on the destruction of, well I'm not exactly sure, but Bill is totally disgusted by it.
I'm sure regular readers of this site want to be on the right side of this one so I came up with a quick list of Christmas music to avoid since the word Christmas is not in the lyrics. This is just a start;
Jingle Bells
Winter wonderland
Silent Night
It Came Upon A Midnight Clear
Sleigh Ride
Away In A Manger
Joy To The World
Wassail Song
Do You Hear What I Hear?
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
Oh Come All Ye Faithful
Hark, The Herald Angels Sing
The First Noel
Frosty The Snowman
Let It Snow
I'm not sure how Bill and his right wing backers feel about the song 'The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year'. It has the word 'Christmas', which is good, but also has the phrase "gay happy meetings". This has to be cleared up before someone has a seizure.
Some of these song titles can also be tossed out the next time some winger starts gassing about Happy Holidays.
A joyous Christma-hanu-qwanza to all.
