A Pennsylvania teacher at a Catholic School as been fired for obtaining a marriage license
so that he could wed his same-sex partner.
This was a deliberate choice on his part. He knew that obtaining this license would violate his contract at the Catholic Church, but he needed to do what his conscience, and his love, required him to do.
The headmaster said Griffin's decision "contradicts the terms of his teaching contract at our school, which requires all faculty and staff to follow the teachings of the Church as a condition of their employment. In discussion with Mr. Griffin, he acknowledged that he was aware of this provision, yet he said that he intended to go ahead with the ceremony."
The man taught at the school for 12 years. You could say that what he did was "moral disobedience", and the Catholic school has lost a valuable faculty member.
