The National Enquirer, house-organ of the intellectual Right, reports a shocking tale of brutality, oppression and bigotry.
Pat Boone, American patriot and the man who made it safe to wear white shoes with a matching belt while hosing people down with corn syrup, is OPPRESSED!!! According to the hard-rocking outlaw:
“We’re obviously being targeted,” said the 79-year-old singer, actor and writer. “This is still America, where people can still meet in their homes and talk freely. But conservatives like myself are being singled out by the Obama administration.
“Obama is the boss and they are doing things under his aegis. The administration is trying to intimidate people and ridicule anyone who does not agree with them.”
Oh, the humanity...but what has caused this burning, itching sensation in Boone's Groin of Liberty? Well, it seems that the IRS is looking into the tax-exempt status of the Friends of Abe (seriously, that's what these assholes call themselves), a Right-Wing group that includes such luminaries as Gary Sinise, Jon Voight, Kelsey Grammer and...Pat Boone.
According to the New York Times:
Now the Internal Revenue Service is reviewing the group’s activities in connection with its application for tax-exempt status. Last week, federal tax authorities presented the group with a 10-point request for detailed information about its meetings with politicians like Paul D. Ryan, Thaddeus McCotter and Herman Cain, among other matters, according to people briefed on the inquiry.
Membership has been defined mostly by access to a private website (there are no dues, but enhanced online access requires a small fee), and attendance at a growing number of events that have included meetings with political operatives like Karl Rove and Frank Luntz; politicians like Michele Bachmann and John Boehner; and media figures like Ann Coulter, Dennis Miller and Mark Levin.
The recent I.R.S. query did not mention the earlier request for access to the names of members, people briefed on the query said.
But a remaining question is whether at least some of the group’s politically oriented encounters will be interpreted as campaign activity, and weigh against its bid for tax exemption as a 501(c)(3) organization, devoted to educational or charitable work.
Jeez....first they came for Pat Boone, but I said nothing because I don't wear white loafers; then they came for Kelsey Grammer, Jon Voight and Gary Sinise...and I said nothing...because, frankly, I was OK with that.
