Right now it feels like the very early light in the dawn before a great battle. But this, fortunately, is a battle of the ballot box.
In the few counties publicly reporting, the numbers of voters on the second day of early voting in NC matched or exceeded the surprisingly large number of early voters on the first day of early voting. The overwhelming numbers of these early voters are Democrats and the number of African-American voters is heartening. More and better information will be available in a couple of hours, but it looks like these are presidential level numbers, with one exception...the Republicans forgot to show up.
Both days of this weekend are going to be beautiful. Perfect weather to get out and vote before the polls close at 2 pm. Perfect weather to canvass. The canvassing sheets are prepared and waiting in boxes, the volunteers all scheduled.
Organizers are just just now dragging their tired asses out of bed and into the shower.
This is going to be a great day (one of many) in the history of democracy where the people fought back against the those who tried to take our democracy away.
An example:
In Durham, NC which is home to many Democrats and many African-Americans the Republican controlled Board of Elections in this very Democratic county only opened one polling station on the first day of voting. It was a serious problem as many people showed up excited to vote on the first day at the not yet opened polling places and a long line existed at the one that was open. But those temporarily disenfranchised voters will regroup and return.
The current regime completed an audit Friday of more than 10,000 voters whose citizenship status had been questioned by a so-called voter watchdog group. link They believe they have found 109, but they are going to flag over a thousand and force those voters to show proof of citizenship. It is time for regime change, and that regime change will continue today.
The Koch brothers are like those guys at the country club with poor fitting suits and bad hair cuts that think they are conning everyone, but are too stupid to know that what they are doing is so obvious to everyone around them.
They are spending a lot of good money to promote the libertarian Sean Haugh with a "More Weed, Less War" campaign with an environmental lead in. link
Heh, too stupid by half, the only fish those con men are going to catch are young Republican men. This is a very poor imitation of the Montana Hunters & Anglers Leadership Fund. Nice try Koch brothers.
Meanwhile the League of Conservation Voters are knocking on doors today as they have for the last month along with Planned Parenthood, Working Families and the Moral Majority Forward Together, to mention a few.
The first bird of the morning has just started chirping in the trees, it is time to start making a difference.
