Ok, not so much of a new rule, a-la Bill Maher, as some changes since I have taken on being the scheduler for WYFP. And I was afraid I might not be here this evening to host WYFP.
But first:
WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
Well, I come from a family full of bad gall bladders. My mother, of blessed memory, had her's removed when she was in her 20's, and the procedure was a bit more invasive. For years she warned me, brother dcnw, and our sister that someday we would go under the knife. My sister had her's out in the same age range as Mom, dcnw had his out in his 30's (I think), and our father had to abandon his second attempt to become alderman of the Third Ward in Waukegan in his late 40's. So when I started having the symptoms a couple of weeks ago, I was worried I'd finally have to part company with my gall baldder. Friday morning saw me heading for the walk-in clinic, driven there by Calamity Jean. The young doctor I saw suggested that I'd gotten there early enough that it wouldn't be a big problem, and called for tests and an ultrasound. So much for that for now, but the day was generally nasty, with Chicago's first snow of the season, high winds, and the removal of the old ash tree from in front of our house (not emerald ash borers, but old age).
But I was talking about WYFP, and the beginning of my stint as the new scheduler.
One problem I have noticed is getting the schedule out and about, and the first thing I did when I answered CJB's call for a new scheduler was to copy and paste the bulk of her post, saving it to a text file. When I got a few volunteers for diaries, I added their names to that list, and I intend to use it at least as the first comment I make in any following diaries. I'd like to convince evryone to actually post the schedule in their diaries, and maybe even edit them as others volunteer to do future diaries, to keep it up-front (though, preferrably at the bottom of the diary) since comments can't be edited, but diaries can. I'd also like to work out a rotation of regulars that could jump in just in case the scheduled diarist couldn't make it, to cover the "15-minute rule". I was a bit late a couple of weeks ago (7 PM Central is my time reference) in getting a substitute up.
One of the things that attracted me to Daily Kos were the various groups (cliques, if you will) that had a lot of crossover and/or spillage. I visit and participate in others, but I enjoy WYFP, and I want it to continue. I just don't want it to become my by-line alone, because it is a community effort. As such, all suggestions are welcome.
And, as I promised:
November 1: JeffW
November 8: Bastrop
November 15: Chi
November 22:
November 29: Yo Bubba
December 6: Blue Jersey Mom
December 13:
December 20:
December 27: Annieli
We could use a few diarists to fill those empty slots...
So, what's your FP?
